Full Day Tour
This the capital of Catalonia and Spain's second largest city. This sophisticated city is rich in ancient and modern architectural and artistic treasures. Passing along the Paseo de Gracia there are good examples of modern buildings, many of which are works by Gaudi. Your guide will point out the famous modernist style Gaudi houses, La Pedrera and Casa Batllo. Continue to the Holy Family Temple or La Sagrada Familia, with a stop for some free time. In 1883, architect Antoni Gaudi began working on the unique modernist design of this Temple dedicated to the Holy Family. Despite being under construction for more than 100 years, the Temple still lacks complete walls and a roof, and Gaudi's closest collaborators are carrying on its construction. Your guide will provide a descriptive narrative of its features such as the magnificent Nativity facade complete with its flamboyant spires, stained glass windows, and sculpted figures that make La Sagrada Familia Temple an architectural masterpiece to behold. Mirador del Alcalde takes in panoramic views of the city and harbor from this viewpoint on top of Montjuic Mountain. This 700-foot hill is a favorite of the locals, as it is also the site of the 1992 Olympic Complex, beautiful parks, fountains and museums. You'll walk through the winding streets of the city's medieval Gothic Quarter before visiting the interior of the 600-year old Cathedral of St. Eulalia, built on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Hercules.
